A message from the President

“Seekonk you’ve come a long way baby” The girls on Coach Mowry’s team could not have made a more fitting statement.  Just as the players on his team have matured and grown to become better soccer players Seekonk Youth Soccer has grown along with them.

None of what our programs offer to the children of Seekonk would be possible without the contributions of many volunteers.  I want to thank the members of the SYS Board who organize and develop our program.  The Board meets monthly and works hard to keep the fields prepared, the children properly registered with Mass Youth Soccer, and a multitude of other activities.  I want to thank the coaches who devote hours of their time building confidence in our children and I want to thank the parents who involve their children in the sports of our town.  Whether it is soccer, baseball, or any other program, involving your children in organized sports in Seekonk introduces them to team spirit and builds character.

This was the final year for Board Member’s Danielle Horton (Recreational Director), Gale Henry (Publicity), and Brittany Henry (Referee Director).  Their contributions were great and they will be missed.  They were replaced by Kelly Moran (Recreational Director), Ginny Pacheco (Publicity), and Mario Morales (Referee Director).  For 2008 we welcome Patricia Eline to the Board as our new Registrar.

Here are some of the SYS highlights for 2007;

1-     Our expanded Black Goose program produced four play-off teams and two undefeated teams.

2-     Two Revolution nights were introduced and many of our players saw Gillette Stadium for the first time.

3-     We hosted our 2nd South Coast league tournament.

4-      The Wheeler School-SYS Summer camp continued to grow.

5-     We partnered with Adminsports.com to go completely online with registrations.

6-     Our website was completely rebuilt and expanded.

7-     We implemented training clinics for each age level during the Fall Recreational season.

8-     We participated on a trial basis in the Cranberry competitive league.

In additional, the SYS Board has begun laying the groundwork for revamping our Spring Recreational league into a multi-week skills program.  The goal of this program will be to teach and develop foot skills to the U-6 and U-8 age groups and prepare them to participate in the Fall Recreational league.

On behalf of the SYS Board I want to wish all of you a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2008!

Dave Abbott

2007 SYS President
